Only this time the fight isn’t for himself, but for his family
When a sinister threat from his childhood comes back to haunt him, a father desperately battles his deepest inner fear. This is the first PG-13 horror film to feature the “Lionsgate Red Gears” logo since Opsjednuta (2012). Patrick McKee: Ever since we got back, I’ve had goosebumps thinking about Jake being kidnapped. Even though I’d never heard of the 2024 horror film “Bagman” before sitting down to watch it, there’s no doubt that I’m actually sitting down to watch it.
Screenwriter John Hulme crafted a script and story that definitely had potential
For what? Well, since a long love affair with the horror genre ensures that any horror movie out there has a good chance. However, the narrative suffered from the fact that the film had no highs or lows. It was a pretty monotonous viewing experience, with nothing particularly scary or exciting.
Visually the film was fine
It’s a real shame, because there was certainly potential in the story and the script. It’s just a shame that it didn’t live up to it. The only actor in the cast that I knew of was William Hope, and he only had a supporting role to play. I will say, though, that the actors’ performances in the film were spot on, even though there was only a mundane story to work from.
And I doubt I’ll be watching the film a second time
It wasn’t a horror film that relied heavily on special effects, and the effects that were in the film were pretty good. The design of the bag carrier itself wasn’t very impressive, though, and the big reveal once the hood was removed was somewhat disappointing. It’s watchable, to be sure, but director Colm McCarthy simply hasn’t delivered an exceptional or particularly memorable horror film. If you’re a horror fan, like me, give the film a chance; you might find it better than I did.
